I met this amazing MUA about 6 or 7 years ago. Our first shoot together I told her, I like to push limits. The second shoot we did together, I asked her to glue dots and glass glitter to the model's faces, along with watercolour paint one of them. As you can see in the images below she made it all happen.

It's been amazing watching her business bloom in what it is today. She has put together an amazing team of makeup artists and hair stylists. Thank you Angel so much for making my visions come true and for participating in the Small Business Highlight!

1) Tell me a little bit about yourself.



My name is Angel Johnson. I am a businesswoman and community advocate.

2) Tell me a little bit about your business.



I own Memphis Makeup Artists, Inc. It is the only Freelance Agency in the city. In 2017, I got started with the idea of creating a team of makeup artists to help support the beauty industry in Memphis. I now have four permanent contractors and a plethora of other freelancers at my disposal.

3) Why did you choose your business?



I have always had a passion for beauty and fashion. I became a freelance makeup artist in 2014 and quickly learned that I needed to structure it in a way that would make it a legit profitable business.

4) What drives you to continue to push your business?

My supporters. My team. My city. My family. What I do impacts them all.

5) What is one piece of advice you want to give to someone starting their own business?

Get a mentor. You will only be able to go so far alone.
